Turning Sustainability Practice Into Credible Impact Communication

Informed by African tourism context

Dynamic shifts in sustainability expectations are creating new opportunities for tourism businesses to communicate the impact that is already embedded in their operations—social and economic development contributions, connections with local people, and stewardship of biodiversity and natural systems. But to remain competitive, this communication needs to be trustworthy.
Impact for Africa supports independently owned tourism businesses by translating sustainability practice into clear, credible communication this is rooted in local context and realities.
We work at the intersection of sustainability practice, tourism operations, and robust evidence-based methodology—helping businesses move from intention to credible narratives that can withstand scrutiny.

From Say to Show

Impact for Africa works with tourism accommodations to, firstly, identify the social, economic, and environmental impacts that are material to their local operating context, including communities, supply chains, and ecosystems.

Using a structured review of evidence, we examine the extent to which impact claims are supported by available data, and identify gaps and assumptions. Findings are then translated into clear, market-ready Impact Snapshots that build trust with buyers and travellers, and reflect operational realities.

Impact Snapshots are supported by an accompanying methodology and boundaries document that sets out scope, data sources, and clarification of principles applied.

Too often, ideas of ‘material impact’ in tourism are defined externally and then applied to destinations with little regard for local context or business realities. Impact for Africa stands out for doing the opposite: starting with evidence, lived experience, and the perspectives of locally owned and independent tourism businesses. By grounding equity-focused thinking in practical, verifiable approaches that reflect how destinations actually function, Impact for Africa helps translate big ideas about fairness and sustainability into tools the industry can genuinely use.
